Set up your Ekran Pro

Everything you need to get your second screen running, from unboxing to display settings.

What's in the box

Check everything is here before you start. The Ekran Stand comes with the Ekran Pro Bundle.

Set up in four steps

  1. 1

    Stand it up

    Place the Ekran Pro in the magnetic folio cover and fold the cover behind the screen to stand it up. Got the Ekran Pro Bundle? Attach it to the Ekran Stand instead and raise it to eye level.

  2. 2

    Connect one USB-C cable

    Plug the included USB-C to USB-C cable into one of the Ekran's USB-C ports, then into a USB-C port on your laptop that supports video. Picture and power travel through the one cable.

    Tip: Use the cable in the box. Some USB-C cables only charge and will not carry a picture.

    No picture over USB-C? Use HDMI

    Connect the Mini HDMI to HDMI cable between the Ekran and your device. Then plug the power adapter into the Ekran's other USB-C port, as HDMI carries picture only.

    Choose extend or mirror

    Tell your laptop how to use the Ekran. Extend gives you a second workspace, mirror shows the same screen twice. Full steps for Mac and Windows are below.

Connect your device

Pick the connection that matches your device.

USB-C

Mac

Connect to a USB-C or Thunderbolt port with the included USB-C cable.

Some MacBook models support a limited number of external displays. Check your Mac's tech specs on Apple's website if you plan to use more than one.

USB-C or HDMI

Windows laptop

Use a USB-C port that supports video. Look for a DisplayPort or Thunderbolt symbol next to the port, or check your laptop's specs.

If your USB-C port only charges, use the HDMI cable and plug in the power adapter.

USB-C

Phones and tablets

Works with phones and tablets that output video over USB-C. Check your device's specs before you start, as not every USB-C port carries video.

Plug the power adapter into the Ekran's other USB-C port to power the screen.

HDMI

Consoles and other devices

Games consoles, cameras and laptops without video over USB-C connect with the Mini HDMI to HDMI cable.

Power the Ekran with the included adapter in its USB-C port.

Display settings

Choose whether the Ekran extends your desktop or mirrors it, then set the size of text and windows.

Mac

  1. Open System Settings and select Displays.
  2. Select the Ekran and choose Extended display to use it as a second screen, or mirror your main display.
  3. Select Arrange and drag the screens to match where the Ekran sits on your desk.
  4. Pick a larger text size if everything looks too small.

Windows

  1. Press Windows key + P and choose Extend to use the Ekran as a second screen, or Duplicate to mirror.
  2. Open Settings, then System, then Display.
  3. Drag the screens to match where the Ekran sits on your desk.
  4. Under Scale, choose a larger setting if text looks too small.

Troubleshooting

Most issues come down to the port, the cable or power. Try these first.

The screen stays black or shows no signal
  1. Check the USB-C port on your device supports video. Ports marked with a DisplayPort or Thunderbolt symbol usually do.
  2. Use the USB-C cable that came in the box.
  3. Unplug both ends, then reconnect firmly.
  4. Connect directly to your laptop, not through a hub or dock.
  5. Still blank? Try the HDMI cable with the power adapter plugged in.
The Ekran turns on, then flickers or switches off

Your laptop may not be supplying enough power through one cable, especially on low battery.

  1. Plug the included power adapter into the Ekran's other USB-C port.
  2. Plug your laptop into its charger.
  3. Turn off low power or battery saver mode.
It powers on but there is no picture

This usually means the cable or port carries power but not video. Swap to the cable in the box, try a different USB-C port, or use the HDMI cable with the power adapter.

Text and windows look too small

The Ekran Pro is 4K on a 16" screen, so everything looks small at full resolution.

  • Mac: in Displays, pick a larger text option.
  • Windows: in Display settings, set Scale to 150% or 200%.
The picture looks blurry or stretched

Set the Ekran's resolution to 3840 × 2400 in your display settings, or choose the default or recommended option.

There is no sound from the Ekran

Select the Ekran as your sound output in your device's sound settings. You can also plug headphones into the Ekran's 3.5mm audio jack.

My laptop does not detect the Ekran
  • Windows: open Settings, then System, then Display, and select Detect under Multiple displays.
  • Mac: unplug the cable, wait a few seconds and reconnect, or restart your Mac with the Ekran connected.
Can I use the Ekran in portrait?

Yes. Stand the Ekran on its side, then set the rotation to portrait (90°) in your display settings.
